Is this actually something that can be done when you marry? He wants my name, but I've only ever known it the other way around.

I'm sure you can change your name by deed pole to anything you want.

Yes... you can. I am not sure if you have to pay the $25 for a legal name change. But yeah, you can have any name you want itf you get it changed in the courts.

You marriage certificate has both of your unmarried names on it. He may need to go through the legal process.

As I remember from getting m name changed... getting bank accounts, credit card and utility companies to then also change my name was more difficult than I ever imagined, like I was the first person to ever do it. It was ridiculous.

YOu will need at least 2 official copies of any name change documents.. One for him to always keep - you never know when people need proof. And to get an updated passport they need an original you can never get back. Most other entities will accept a photocopy.

I'm not a lawyer, but I did change my name legally about 25 years ago in Ohio. My understanding is that any adult can change her/his name to just about anything as long as he/she is not doing it for illegal reasons (i.e. to skip out on debt, etc). So yeah, your husband may be able to change his name to yours, and if he were my husband, I'd be very proud of him for doing something that most men would never have the guts to do.

It's possible! For sure. It's only an old patriarchal tradition only for women to change their names (and identities) once they get married. It's a new era in male/female relations, a good one, I'd say..

You can do it - yes.

It's just a matter of changing your name with Social Security & all the other hoopla that comes along with any name change due to marriage or divorce (or other reasons to change your name)

Some countries it's customary to use the woman's name.

No one says it cannot be done.

I would take her name with no problem.

I see it as a sign of love and I would be honored if someone thought and loved me that much to do that. That is ultimate sign of respect!

I guess anyone can change their name, if they so choose. The glitch being, do you want him to have your name, or do you want his???
