Because we are so materialistic. And we love to show off. The thing that bugs me is the way all the new houses that people build are just boxes. They have no character because people pick the cheapest but biggest design. It's sad really.

my brother has money. the more money the bigger the house. I don't get it. How many room do two people need? He now has a ten thousand-plus square foot house. You can spend a day in each room and not repeat a room for twenty days. Personally, I get lost, its hard to clean, its not intimate, I'm constantly going from room to room looking for stuff, and all those windows without curtains. He has those floor to ceiling windows and because its on a lake they do not use curtains. It creeps me out when I'm in that big house alone.

This is true. In Japan they have small spaces to live in and do not decorate extensively like we do here in the states. Why? So that they can enjoy their LIVES and not have to spend it cleaning their belongings. Makes senses.

Because we can. Actually if you look at the amount of land the States has and the size of our homes we have relatively small homes.

Why do we buy a house, spend money,time and effort getting it exactly like we want it, only to sell it, buy another one and repeat the process??????

because most people think that if it is bigger it is better. just because it is bigger does not mean that it is better. and that is what most americans think today.
