I have heard that the kids should go to the one that is responsible of taking care of the kids. Okay. I have to disagree to a point. If dad is working a Mcdonald's because that is the only job that he can get employment for does that make him any less of a responsible parent. He is paying his child support, so shouldn't he have half of the custodial responsibilities that is given fully to one parent based on the idea that one parent has treated his significant other poorly. Yet he was a good parent to the children. We as Americans must step up to the plate and see that such laws are replaced with reasonable laws that give both parents the responsibility to see and raise their children. The courts are only making money off of child support enforcement by charging interest on back child support. when this money can stay in the households where it belongs, because many non-custodial parents are giving money to the custodial parent on the side and still paying child support.

WOW~ greygoose martini hit the nail on the head. I have always said the same thing! Choose the mother or father of your children wisely so that you won't have to deal with any of this.

My view of this whole issue is that most people try to hurt the other through their children. I hope that you aren't one of those people who just try to make your ex's life miserable. My sister is going through some stuff and her ex is a big jerk who says he is going to make her life a living hell until their child is 18. He is just mad because she finally got the nerve to leave him after years of mental abuse. Even the mediator said they won't have anything else to do with him because he is so meanspirited.
He says he is looking out for the best interest of his child but then he can't control himself not to call my sister names and say bad things about her to his child.
He says he is going to quit his job so that she doesn't have any way of getting the support. He would cut off his nose despite his face...what a loser.

The whole child support/custody thing is a huge racket designed to make the government money and men as miserable as possible.

The idea behind child support is that BOTH parents should contribute the SAME amount of money to the care of the child each month. So, if one parent pays $400 then the one with custody should also be forking out $400 a month to care for the kid. Now, seriously, we all know that it doesn't cost $800 a month to feed and clothe a child (you already have to have a home and car for YOURSELF). So, child support is actually a form of alimony.

Where am I going with this? No where really, since there is very little that will change until people start making better decisions about who they marry and who they have children with.

I think both parents should have custody of the child or children and when in there care THEY pay for what the child dose. When it comes to medical and that it should be split 50/50 and that both parents should sit down thogether (or with a mediator if need be) and discuse it before it is done.

I'm tired of the courts almost always giving custody to the wife and then she is alot worse of a parent than the husband is. This needs to change. Where he home situation is evaluated on a yearly baises and it is a unanounced visit. Because you and I both know that when they say they will be there on x date they will make everything perfect. But if they show up unanounced then they will c things for how they truly are. Or just about. If things are bad then they will give them x amount of time to fix it and if it isn't done by that date the child should go to the father or another relative until things there are fix.

Depends on the situation, abuse etc., but on the whole I think both parents should pay child support which goes into a bank account for the child which is wholey theirs until legal age or whatever ge is agreed upon.
