My daughters father was charged with felony possession of a concealed weapon and in the state of Michigan, thats a mandatory two year sentence. My daughter is 2 and hasnt seen her father in 7 months. He's about 6 hours away in a camp and twice I have applied to be put on the visitors list and twice I have been rejected by the MDOC for some reason. I dont know what I should do for him since he hasnt been around all this time. Am i obligated to send him a card or something? I mean, isnt fathers day a day to show gratitude for all the things that daddy has done for you? If they are locked up for something dumb, what am I supposed to do?

If i didnt make myself clear, I have not been added to the visitors list at the michigan department of corrections so I can't go visit him so thats already out of the question.

(Wow, when they say "add details" they mean ALL the details!) He has called and written letters so he isnt a complete deadbeat. Mostly we have corresponded through letters and he always says he loves Jaz (our daughter).

I would write him a letter, send him a card.Im sure he would love to hear from you.Tell him how his daughter is doing.Everyone is human and do make mistakes, its if you listen and learn from that mistake what counts.I do wish you luck, and god bless.Hope this helps a bit

What effort has he made to communicate with your daughter? Is he even interested in being a father to her? Even if he's in prison, he could make a phone call or write a letter. If he hasn't done any of those things, you have no reason to honor him on Father's Day or any other day.

Father's Day is supposed to be a celebration of the good things a dad does for his children, not just a commemoration of a biological accident. Sorry to be so blunt, but this situation warrants straight talk.

Bottom line: If the guy is a "Dad," send him a card. If he was just a sperm donor, ignore him.

Why was he carrying a GUN! Is he a Criminal? I think SO! He deserve his punishment, and part of that is seperation from you and his kids. HE IS NOT A GOOD FATHER! Good fathers would not do anything to jeperdize being with there kids . RIGHT? Find A BETTER father for your kids while he's in there, hes just a sperm donor now. think about the life you and your kids are bound for with this guy! prison make you harder and more against the law, think GURL! think hard.

Never deprive a child from their father. Make an effort to send a card with her own personal (scribble on it). Two wrong never make it right. He'll always be her father, stand up and be the woman you're made to be. LOVE!!

Well at least your trying. I'm sorry it hasn't worked out yet. Maybe if you can't visit him you can have him talk on the phone to her, or have her draw or color a picture for him.
