Stephen Stills song.

I think "There's a rose in the fisted glove" is a "metaphor" to convey the image of good and bad, the pretty with the ugly. he also says and the eagle flies with the dove - two birds one would not expect to see together. He's saying two people can be in love and be different types of people.

Love The One You're With by Crosby Stills Nash
There's a Rose
In a fisted Glove
and the eagle flies with the dove
and if you can't be with the one you love
it's alright
Go ahead and love the one, love the one, love the one your with
love the one, love the one, love the one your with
If your guy can't come to you
and you don't remember who your talking to
your concentration slips away
because your baby, she is so so far away
chorus: And there's a rose in a fisted glove
and the eagle flies with the dove
and if you cant be with the one you love
love the one your with
Don't be angry
don't be sad
Don't sit cryin' for good times you had
There's a girl right next to you
and she's waiting for something to do
chorus

Do it
do it
do it
Turn your heartache into joy
She's a girl and your a boy
get together, make it tonight,
you ain't gonna need no more advice
chorus
Just love the one your with

I think it means he remember the times they spent to gather while holding a rose from her but now its time to move on

I think the song is all about learning to accept your circumstances and making the best of your situation. You could complain about the thorns on a rose, and miss out on the beauty and fragrance. Better to slip on a glove, deal with the thorns, and focus only on the beauty. Not sure about why the glove is fisted. Sounds pretty kinky.

If all you have are lemons, why not make lemonade?

Yes, that's the lyric in the Stephen Stills song. I think it means that there's sometimes something beautiful to be found in things not usually associated with beauty. Peel away the glove and there's the rose. And let me say that the album this song is on , is one of the best from the early 70's. Jimi and Eric play on it, as well as others from that period. check out "Black Queen" Glenn.... Houston

It's showing the juxtaposition between a rose (as tendernes & love) and the coldness of a fist in a glove. Hey, I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, it WAS the 60's...

it's something to do with being gay. A gay may will hand a rose to another man with a glove on his hand. " Love the one you're with" means, don't wait around for the one "you" love, cause they may not love you. And then you'll be wasting you're life. Also, "without love where would you be now" ? Means, no one would be alive without, "LOVE"!

Yes it is the lyric. It could mean a lot of things, most likely tough/hard/ugly on the outside, or someone putting up walls, but beautiful on the inside.

People "idealize" their whole lives, living in fantasy situations instead of the real "Here and Now"...Love the one your with, means putting fantasy aside, and growing up, dealing with real relationships, instead of wishful ones....

The image is a kind of metaphor. Like "peace in the face of war, violence" etc

There's a tender side to brutal people. Peace is possible. "...And the eagle flies with the dove."
