Some sources I have read say that King Arthur is not dead, he had been gravely wounded in battle when he was transported to the Isle of Avalon. Supposedly he was the only Christian taken to the Island of the Goddess, to be returned again, whole, to Britan, in her hour of greatest need.
I wish I could give the source, but it was so long ago.

According to legend, Arthur did not die but was carried to the Isle of Avalon to rest until he would return in Britain's darkest hour. Avalon may be located near Glastonbury.

Avalon. From there he was borne by four queens- Morgan le Fay, the Lady of the Lake, the Queen of the Northgales and the Queen of the Wastelands- on his last voyage.
