Win XP , current OS ... try it out
- r u using old computer, then maybe the others come into consideration
plus u cannot buy anything but xp now ... 98se & 2000 no longer available for sale

If we are talking about an older computer, I would not even bother with Windows XP, it will turn your computer into a slow slow machine. If it is new enough then go with XP. I would not bother with Windows 98, 98SE or ME. Anyone who says Windows ME is better than Windows 98SE clearly does not understand what is being said. Windows ME was by far THE WORST operating system ever released on the market by Microsoft or anyone. Windows 98SE is superior (stability wise) to Windows ME. But, among all of them Windows 2000 or XP is the clear choice. Windows 2000 and XP are basically the same operating system with Windows XP packing a few more enhancements and security features. And currently, Windows 98SE is not good for gaming since everything new is being released for XP. But most programs that run on Windows XP will run on 2000 provided you meet the requirments for the program and vice versa.

Yeah rite both are outdated. But in comparison of 98 se and 2000 , 2000 is better.

Windows XP is build after 2000, with some extra features lice nice graphics, a built-in firewall(SP2 only!!) and in general mor eprotection. But you can have all the protection you need by installing a good firewall and a good antivirus on 2000! (not that on XP you won't need these...). Every application that is designed to work on XP will work on 2000 too!

Neither is very good anymore. They won't keep up with all of the security and technological advances. You need a new computer that runs Windows XP, Home or Pro. Since you don't know what you are doing, do not get Vista for at least three more years.

I wouldn't go windows 2000. If your computer is new enought I would go windows XP home edidition.
It is very stable and has some very nice features like recovery to a previous state if something crashes your computer. Built in firewall,etc.
It also handles Networking quite well.
