I think the best sport is Ultimate Frisbee. This is new in some campuses, but a very respected and competitive sport at other campuses. It has lots of contact and running and has intergender teams as well. Plus you don't have to deal with any of the crap of organized sports (annoying coaches, time schedules unheard of etc).
If you are looking for a very organized sport I would join Football or Baseball. Most colleges are very protective with their basketball program so won't let anyone in.
Heck, I think running is the best sport in college though :)
No rules no nothing, just run!
