Some people are not very friendly but most should at least be fairly neutral. It's the communication problems that normally put people off rather than any acutal unfriendliness; it's hard to build up any kind of meaningful relationship or friendship with someone if you can't understand each other as a large part of it is based on communication and conversation. If you can get a dialogue going you're probably in with a good chance. Should the first people you try not want to know, just ignore them and move on.
Still, your english skills seem quite good (far, far better than most british people's chinese proficency, that's for certain)...... heck by the look of the internet it's better than a lot of so-called native english "speakers" :-) so good luck.

no they aren't. if anything, because of it being kind of a melting pot society, they are less racist and more friendly. what's more important, however, is you. you'll find many more friendly people if you actually go out and speak english and make friends. It's absolutely a good idea NOT to live with other chinese students. You'll end up speaking chinese all the time and only befriending each other. make sure your roommates are british and the house language is English. next. stay off the chinese internet and QQ! you're in britain to better your english right? stick to it!

Although I am Scottish, and so can't speak for the whole of the UK, I can say that the people here are no more racist than anywhere else. True you can, and probably will, meet people who's behaviour and attitude leaves something to be desired but I can't see there being a significant problem.
I would say though that, like anywhere else, there are places where (for many reasons) tolerance is very low although this is less likely to be in University towns.
In answer to your question I would be surprised if it was a problem although there are always going to be a minority who are prejudiced.

I'd add that there are also very good 'Foreign Students Socities' in most British uni's, so you have lots of opportunities to meet and socialise with people from your own background, in addition to spending as little or as much time trying to get on with the natives. There is a very large number of foreign students here, especially in the major cities, not aware f their being any particular problems.

I take it you're anxious about travelling over here to study?
You'll be fine. Most people will be fine with you. If you join in with some students' societies or sports clubs you'll make friends no problem.
The uni will also run a foreign students' society, which will arrange nights out and social events for foreign students, so you'll be able to meet lots of other people in the same kind of position.

Ni hao ma. We're a friendly, sociable race, but as you see one problem you may encounter is that we want to practice speaking what little Chinese (Mandarin, Putonghua etc) we know when you want to learn English! You'll find the freedom we have a little hard to understand at first but just take it slowly and do what you would normally do in your own country while you observe our ways. I wish you a good stay.
If you're coming here in September bring me a moon cake, lol.

The British are one of the nicest people in this world. Ofcourse there are execptions, I being an Indian am saying this as I have interacted with many of them and found them polite and helpful. Though the same cant be said about Australians though. Stay away from their country especially if you are an Asian.

I'm Irish and have an English girlfriend and a few friends over in england. There are racist people in all walks of life, I wouldn't say they are any more or any less racist than any other nationality.
Just stay away from there football fans ... LoL

i don't think so, but i'm American and our country is made of all races...our society struggles with that issue but it will get better eventually as people become more educated.
generally i think they would be polite and respectful but it may take them quite a while to warm up. don't think you would face much outward abuse, it may be very subtle like being ignored on the street.....which sometimes is a good thing:) and if you take on their style and study their history they will be impressed if you ask them questions about their country. they are a strong proud nation. hope you get to go there....i'd like to, my ancestors are from there a few hundred years ago.
