The sheets are available in 4 x 8 or 4 x 10 or 4 x 12. Assuming your room is 10 feet high or less, you need twenty 4-foot sheets of either 8 or 10 feet in length to do the walls...(10.5 + 10.5 + 28 + 28 ) / 4 = 20 sheets.

To do the ceiling, four 8-foot sheets could go the length of the room. Three across would be 12 feet. The ceiling would therefore be 4 x 3 sheets = 12 sheets.

Total 32 sheets.

I assume the dimensions (10.5 ft x 28 ft) are for the floor surface area? How high is the ceiling? You would need that measurement to determine the amount of material needed for the walls. In fact to make this easier you should measure each wall and do the same calc I did below for the ceiling.

If you would like to cover the ceiling you would need at least 10.5 x 28 square ft of material. It is generally a good idea to buy some extra (perhaps 5 - 10%).

u people r forgeting something, waste! u cant just figure sq ft.....most the time u will be off. plus sheetrock comes in 4 x 8 and 4 x 12, we use 4 x 12 so not to have as many seams.easier finishing.

if wall is 8' tall:

2-4 x 12 will do each wall..........

ceiling: need to know which way the ceiling joist r running. if they r running. if the joist r 28' long then u need 7 - 4 x 12:

if ceiling joist running 10'6" then u need 6- 2 x 12

so, 4 walls= 4 - 4 x 12's
other 2 wall= 9

ceilings = go with the 7 - 4 x 12's

Assuming an 8 ft cieling -

The Cieling is 11x28 or 308 sf

1. Wall 28x8 or 224-224 448 sf

2. Wall 11x8 or 88+88 is 176 sf
total 932 sf- using 4x8 sheets- 32 into 932 =30 sheets, add for waste 2 sheets, 32 sheets.

In this room use 4x12- hang the 10.5 walls with no cuts horizontal 4 pcs.
For 28 ft wall use 4 4x12 hung horizontal, and one 4x8 vertical- on each side.

Convert the math to 4x12-

For the ceiling use 4x12- 7 pcs,

2 walls at 8ft x 28ft = 448 sq ft
2 walls at 8ft x 10.5 ft = 168 sq ft
1 ceiling at 10.5 ft x 28ft = 294 sq ft
294 + 168 + 448 = 910 sq ft.
Subtract for doors and windows, and you have the MINIMUM amount required for the job.
910 / 32 = 29 sheets
You can save a little by using 1/4" or 3/8" for the ceiling. You would want to use 1/2" or 5/8" for the walls. Check your local fire and building code to see what is required.

Simple math will suffice here. The room, sans height, is 10.5x28. This comes to 294(x2=588) sq. ft. for all 4 walls. Most places that sell home improvement products of this type sell them in 4x8 sheets, or 32 sq. ft. 588/32=18.375, or approximately 20 "slabs" of Drywall you'll need for the walls(assuming 8' ceiling). Of course this number will vary depending on the shape of the room and any obstacles such as doors, windows, etc. As for the ceiling, the number should be roughly half what you need for the walls. At certain places you may also be able to get some pieces precut to a specific size. For mor information, I would suggest going to your local library and looking for books and videos for this subject.

Do one wall at a time. Multiply the length of a wall by the height. Thats your sf for that wall. Sheet rock is 4x8=32sf. Divide your sf by 32 . If it comes up a fraction round up to next whole number.

sheet rock is 8feet by 4 feet which is 8x4=32 squarfeet per sheet.
Take your room square feet divide by 32 that is how many sheets you will need.
measure one wall at a time if one wall is 10.5x28=294 then divide by 32 = 12.7 so you need 13 ( round up to they do not sell .7 sheets )

Hey been there done that...Don't give your self a headache. The best and easiest way to do this is take your room measurement to the hardware store and they will let you know the right amount to buy.
