I mean how cool are they. You get to rape, pillage, save a damsel or a guy with a noose around his neck.
What could be more fun!
You even get to run the Jolly Roger flag.

I am aware that piracy is still very much alive.
It might be amusing only for the pirates themselves, certainly not their victims.

TY Gerbabooee for understanding the "rape and pillage" words.....
It is not something I would ever condone, and perhaps I should not have used it, but like you said, it is part of a phrase.

Yes I think about this often and also of running off to become a gypsy or a wood elf. I would like to take a quick exit for a few years on a big ship and rob rich people and give the money away like a Robin Hood pirate. Of course I'd like to keep a good bit of the dough to blow on rum. I am not interested in the "rape" part of your question though. I kinda don't think you meant that either. I think you just wrote the word because it is a part of the very common collocation "rape and pillage". I would probably have fun in my pirate bed with the willing and able though. And not with my wooden leg either.

Yeah!... I remember when I was in the 1st grade our teacher asked us all what we wanted to be when we grew up. Everyone else was giving lame-a$$ answers like 'doctor', 'lawyer', 'policeman', 'fireman', etc., so when it finally came to me I smugly proclaimed that I was going to be... a PIRATE!...
--- After the laughter died down my teacher kindly informed me that pirates were people that were around a long time ago, but didn't exist anymore... I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! All that dreaming and planning...WASTED!!!
With that knowledge, I realized that I had to do more research and pick a more 'contemporary' career path. So, that Summer, I did just that...
Sure enough, as Fate would have it, our 2nd grade teacher asked us all what we wanted to be when we grew up. The same banal answers were being spewed out as I bided my turn knowing that, this time, my research would pay off with my new career choice. Sadly, however, I wound up being laughed at and disappointed yet again!!!...
... But I still think I would've made an excellent 'Hit Man'!
That year I learned that TV was probably not the only source I should use to pick a career...

I did as a boy, and the rape and the pillage and the loot ............ well that didn't get my rocks off when I began to understand life and especially sex. Force, never, but a roll in the hay with a grateful damsel after I saved her or her father or close family -Oh yeah!
Jolly Roger? skull and crossbones? what do I have to do with the dead, when I was young and full of vibrant energy.
Walk the plank, well I did make a number of my matey's do that on the makeshift planks.
Fifteen o men on the dead man's chest
Yo ho ho and a bottle o'rum!
Drink and the devil has done the rest!
Yo ho ho and a bottle o'rum!

Hahaaaargh me hearties!
And who among our black-hearted band dares say there are no pirate runners here?
Hoist sail my lads and lasses true, and do the Devil's work upon a smiling sea. Sing ho for the rum and the life of the ship, and a thousand gold coffers for stealing. Haargh....

It's exciting isn't it?!!!
But then I dreamed I hadn't had any fresh fruit in 12 months, got scurvy, slept with a wench, got the pox, and then my nose and willy fell off. So no...no more pirate dreams for me thanks.
