Why won't my pocket pc play mp3s correctly?

It plays mp3s fine when they are stored on the internal memory, but it refuses to play them off a storage card. It can read them off the storage card and see that they are there, but it won't actually play them. And, if I copy them from the storage card to the internal memory, then they play fine again. And I know that the card is ok, because everything else works fine on it. How can I make it work?

check if you player is compatible with the mp3 file

Are they MP3's? Because I am assuming you are using Windows Media Player, and that will choose to play some formats correctly and completely screw up other formats.
