Say i upgrade my computer. I would very much like to buy SATA hard drive since it's much faster than ATA hard drive, graphic card, i have no problem with that, my processor is fine, "people" say, but the real problem is the RAM. I just don't get familiar with DIMM, DDR, and all sorts of things and i don't know how to upgrade my RAM. My RAM is about 256MB and i don't know any information about the RAM. How can i investigate my RAM?

Here are 4 web sites for memory manufacturers. They each have a "memory configurator". Type in the make, model and series of your computer (for example, mine would be Dell Inspiron 2200) adn you will find out exactly what kind of memory your computer needs, how much it will support, and all kinds of other info about your computer. I like kahlon the best because they also sell hard drives, etc and have a great FAQ section.

Hope this helps.

SATA and ATA hard drives have different connectors. If you don't have an SATA connection on your motherboard you will need to install a SATA PCI card into your computer to connect the drive.

If you have a branded computer (Dell, Compaq, Apple, HP, Gateway) you can goto crucial and check what type of ram you will need. Once you choose the brand and model of computer it will show on the screen what type of RAM you need and even how much it will take to max it out. If you don't know the brand and it's a custome brand you may be able to choose the motherboard manufacturer (usually written on the motherboard) and model (also on the motherboard) to determine what you will need.

The difference in speed from upgrading your hard drive to SATA will not be very significant. Upgrading your RAM will help you out a lot on speed. Windows XP runs best with 512-1GB (1024MB) of memory (RAM).

Also keep in mind that if you install a SATA hard drive you won't be taking advantage of that unless your operating system (Windows XP?) is installed on that hard drive.
