The first thing that springs to mind is, biologically that is what we are designed to do.

In extension to that thought, I think most people decide to have children to fulfil a void in their life. For some it may be the "biological clock", a loveless relationship, low self esteem etc etc. Occasionally a couple decides to have children as a way of extending their relationship, to fulfil themselves.

There are so many ways that question could be interpreted... I think the answer will be different every time someone answers it. Personally, I am having a child because the decision was made by a higher being - remember not all pregnancy's are planned. Having said that it doesn't mean I would change a thing.

If people didn't reproduce, the human population would die out within 80-110 years. Think about it, the reason why people reproduce is to continue the life of the species. Not just because they want a family or a child to fill their lives, but because there is something within all of us that urges human kind to keep going--its a survival thing just as much as it is a desire to have children and a family.

Because God commanded us to do so right from the very beginning. As soon as Adam and Eve were together, and out of the Garden of Eden, they were commanded to multiply and replenish the earth. That means reproduce, have children, replace all the people that die so there will be people left on the earth to bring more people onto the earth. The cycle continues. How did you come around if your parents hadn't come together?? Those who don't have children by choice are rejecting God and will not be numbered among his people. Of course, you do what you will. Your choice!

Some entire country's should stop reproducing for a few decades. They may then actually have the time and resources to join the rest of the planet in progressing forward.

I can explain it with an Indian view. In Hindu system of values the life of an individual has to pass through 4 stages. and he has to follow the four purusharths ( Dharma, Artha, Kama and moksha )during these stages.1. Brahmacharya - un married stage. In this statge a boy has to learn the things from his guru and from the society. i.e practicing the things in DHARMA way. 2. Grihastu - Married man - In this stage a man has to earn money -ARTHA i.e money to sustain his family and his country. Progeny or procreation of his own race by practicing the KAMA ( sex) is the important function of this stage of life. 3. Vanaprastha - an elderly guide . In this stage a matured man will be sharing his expertise with the Brahmacharys and grihastus and guide them in moving right direction in their life. 4. Sanyasa - preparing to leave this world. In this stage an old man leave the country and move to either forest or mountains to attain MOKHSA - the ultimate desire of an human being. NO rebirth.
From the foregoing it was aptly expained by the ancient people that " Practicing sex for procreation of his own race in Dharma way leads to MOKHSA".

From the point of view of a sociologist procreation or reproduction is inevitable when there is a cohabitation between two sexes. It is necessory to have its own race flurish to have more people of same origin to defend thier belongings and valuables during the times of difficulties. To regularise this the institutions like marriage and family have been come into existaence.

There are several biological reasons for engaging in childrearing as well as healthy psychological ones for humans.Though not all adults are mature enough for the responsibility etc.The act of having and rearing children is after all a major function in terms of human behavior and survival. It is imprinted deep in our DNA and if thwarted by contraception for a life time, can lead to several possible negative effects on our bodies and psyches.

We shouldn't. There is already to much over population in this world and many many starve every day.

However, I suppose we can't take that right away from people, but I think that if there are any bad genes in their family tree, they should give serious thought about not having children and/or go adopt.

Because it's fun makin' 'em, and it's fun playin' and lookin' after 'em!

For mine, I'm with the very first commandment God gave to man:
'The more ... the merrier"!!!

People today just don't know what they're missing out on!
Our grandparents knew and had 10 of em.

They learnt more, especially about human relations and learning to live with other people.
No wonder they had much less divorce!!
These days because of living in only small family backgrounds, people just don't learn how to live with the many different traits and characteristics that make up people generally. They don't know how to live with one another, and haven't learnt the art and extent of sacrifice needed to make such a complex relationship work well!

HAVE A BIG FAMILY, AS THE LORD SAID ... AND LET YOUR KIDS SUCCEED IN THEIR MARRIAGES AND OTHER INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS!!

To continue our lineage, to produce the next generation and to keep passing on the family name, etc.
For royalty their agenda is to ensure a future heir to the throne therefore to take their place when they retire though it's not the case for British Royalty!
Queen Elizabeth II is over 80?!
But mostly we want kids to complete our lives. To bring an emotional fulfillment in the household. To have them care for you when you retire granted if they are good kids (very rare)
