This problem i once came across and it took me a while to work out what was wrong, I eventually pulled the engine apart to find a piston with round scorch marks onit. The loud clicking of mine was the piston coming up and hitting the valve, and my burning smell was all the unburnt fuel going into the cat and burning off. I would suggest a mechanic, if you cannot organise a tow i would sugest driving to the nearest mechanic using mostly very good clutch control to stop any strain on the engine. But unfortunately it isnt really worth commiting to a repairs on this type of vehicle. Only other things i can think of would perhaps be a slight issue with the valves in the engine itself, it collapsed they will let oil into the piston just keep an eye on oil level and temp. I hope this helps, and dont listen to scare mongerers on this site, if it aint blown up yet it aint going to, its just this site has alot of people not knowing a thing!

An easy mount check (park on cement have a person observe the engine movement from a side view) while you brake tourque in drive or reverse if your mounts are bad it will move up and back while in drive and down and forward in reverse if you get more than say a thumbs length of movement in either direction chances are a mount is broken or on a rare occasion loose. One thing you can check that will cause a lot of vibration if bad is a (out of balance or cracked flywheel,or even a loose tourque converter),another posibility the Car may be in need of CV-joints(Constant Velocity universal joints )there are 4 of these one at each end of the shaft's where the trans and shaft hub connect ,and where the shaft output end meets the yolk end just before it goes through at the wheel hub center. you will hear a lot of clicking usually on turning corners a lot when they are worn out .Wheel bearings going bad will also add to the problem.check wheel bearing's and CV-shaft's as soon as you can,if left unchecked you can be left stranded and with a more expensive repair bill . Also[ EXTREEMLY IMPORTANT ]check your wheel lug nuts to make sure they are tight and check the rim holes they tighten up to; if the holes are wallowed out (holes are spread open larger than the wheel stud and the nuts look like they are eaten away and threads are gone on the studs ) rims, studs, and lug nuts;[ MUST BE REPLACED ] BECAUSE THEY CAN SHEER OFF AND CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL !!!!!!
I had a 83 chevy celebrity with a 2.8 v-6and had ;mounts had to be replaced, then cv-joints,flywheel cracked and tore up my converter due to loss of balance (result :new pump seal and converter, and flywheel ).
oldsmobiles are excellent cars, just a little tlc and it will be right as rain .

could be one thing could be several......start small go big......(funny i say this because i meant easy to hard).......check the tires....when the tires are bald they will cause the car to shake ...check the inside of the tire.....wear a glove in case wire is showing.Having an improper tire balancing will do this too.The next things should be checked by a mechanic.....tie rods and joints....Those parts when worn will cause the car to shake. At higher speeds if its the tires ....it will ride smooth.Thats when the tire is spinning at a high point on the tire compared to a flat point...
All in all get the car into a repair shop......pay the cost....it's worth it.....

Check transmission fluid level, might think about servicing transmission. The 65 mph problem is probably wheel balance. Generally you will feel wheel balance problems between 55-65 mph and it will subside at higher speeds.
