I think this is a good question that cannot be answered broadly.. It's not fair to say "a lot of african americans are racist toward white people" Just like it isn't fair to say "a lot of white people are racist toward african americans" .. granted it is easier to "name call" racism stemming from "white people" but from what I know about history african american people were opressed by whites for a very long time..
Continue to open your mind and be friendly with people of all cultures, backgrounds, skin color, etc. The world is a more interesting place with diversity, you can't change other peoples' minds, so do the best you can with your own.

Well, the USA in particular has always been over sensitive about "politically correct" things. Especially racism towards black people, I mean come on now, we did rape, murder, steal, bludgeon, beat, whip, terrorize, and spit on these people for over a hundred years. So it's in some understanding, that the culture is overly sensitive about the repercussions of such actions, especially in today's razor sharp media light.
I understand completely what your say, though I do not believe it is racism. I think, and it sounds from your examples you are singling out black comedy shows, that the comedy blacks are per suing in American media, just bring to light the terrible incidences of the past. I believe there has been a reversal in "racist" terms that now empower black people to use them and still prohibit whites to use them. Is this racist? No, but it's not fair, but then again neither is the world. I have to crack a smile though and actually be a little proud of the black man who can make $300,000 a year telling "ni*ger" jokes on public television, when I can barely utter the word in public. I think they deserve that, and all the other words. After all, aren't we the ones who started it?
But to conclude, by no means do I think there is a lot of racism against whites, in fact, I think for the most part, the black community has given the white a hell of a lot more chances than the white man cares to admit!

All races contain racists. Racism is a condition of being human, not of a particular race. Not sure what "a lot" is; if you're implying that there are more black racists than white racists, I don't think that's true.
Anyway, all the things you mention in the text after your question are unique to a culture in which slavery is a part of history. It doesn't matter that slavery was "a long time ago;" the psychological effects of something which traumatized entire generations of people do not simply go away as soon as a law is passed. America is still dealing with how to address the problems which have resulted from slavery - from the abuse of millions of people for hundreds of years. All the little things you mention are symptoms of the ongoing, indirect way of figuring out how to accomplish this.
When you say "a lot of black people don't like me," keep in mind that it's not about you. It's in the nature of human beings to most quickly identify others by their appearance. American society doesn't encourage people to communicate in honest, open ways, so unless that communication exists between two people, the understanding of each other is most likely going to fall down to the level of physical appearance and stereotypes. That applies to all races.

Hatred and bigotry beget hatred and bigotry. Yes, some black people are racist toward white people and they all have different reasons. Some are just ignorant, some are hurt, some have been discriminated against and are acting out of pain (not a good excuse, but a sad state) and some don't even like themselves and so won't adapt to any good thing.
The purpose of BET, black books, black festivals, black art, black films, et cetera that seem to exclude other cultures is that it has become necessary over the years to purposefully INFUSE all of the above into mainstream media. I don't have to tell you that everyone does not have a good heart and desire equality, inclusion and racial diversity like you and me. The truth is that American society and much of American History has favored whiteness and cursed and abused blackness and so there is so much residual negativity. There is a white priviledge that is reserved economically, geographically and even spiritually and it is so devisive, deceptive and unfortunate: just as much for the those included as excluded.
You have a lot of courage and I admire you for asking this question. Thicken up your skin for the backlash and stupidity you're about to receive from Yahoo! answers. But PLEASE don't delete your question. You've asked a very necessary question.
Here's hoping things could be better someday. Thank God His kingdom is to come. Thank you. Peace.

I do think African Americans are racist, worse than most white americans, mainly because being black they have a history of being discriminated against and are carrying a chip on their shoulder. It is also deeply engrained into the culture.
White people are racist too, we just have more tact at what we are saying cause we don't want to hear it.
Also the race that is the ones being picked on for the longest time will be more sensitive than the ones who were doing the picking.
It is the same thing when men bash women and vice versa.
a double standard.

No not all but its the same as whites. There are ignorant racists in all races. But the funniest thing is makeing fun a racisim whiich is what is done on comedy central. Some thing such as Black colleges, balls, etc breed racisim. And yes it would be racists to have an all white anything its called a double standard. There will always be racisim but we might as well laugh at it cause its always going to be here.

I agree. I'm not sure if "a lot" of African Americans have racial feelings toward Caucasians, but there appears to be a disturbing percentage around the country.
I personally think we should focus on our similiarities as fellow Americans and not dwell on our differences.... such thinking creates networks like BET and the NAACP...

First of all, we bleed the same blood, breathe the same air and we are all born to die. Its a case of vise/versa but with a generational twist that no one cares to admit. There will always be a difference because we are all different with different understandings. Racism is a crutch that will always exist to hide the illusion of the true nature of mankind.....control! Slavery existed during biblical times, during the Holy Roman Empire and so on as much right now. God gave man free will so you need to take that up with him.
And if you really look at it even today because your question proves it to be true. There are chains and images of psychological slavery that inslaves all people. Look and see who is really in control, its not just black or white as much anymore, it is the have and the have not's. You are a slave to your mind as you were not or no one was born with hate in their hearts. And think about this; If you control a person's thoughts you need not worry about their actions, now think about that when you look at NASCAR, NHL, XGAMES, politics, government, the president, owners of the majority FORTUNE 500 companies, the media and things of that nature. Look at the NBA, NFL, WWE, churches and the entertainment industry. Check the history.....there is no level playing field because of the control issues of man. You have every right to be angry but don't tell us not too because lets face it, these things will always be. What matters is how you see yourself and the actions you take.

Yes, they are, unfortunately. A double standard exists in this country where blacks can make light of a white, but if a white comedian says something about a jungle bunny or big lips, he/she is ostracized. At the comedy clubs I work I see this. Some (but very few) black comedians accept black jokes, but this is not the norm. But do you know what? A joke is a joke is a joke and whatever is funny I don't mind saying, be it black, white, Asian or whatever!

Bigeyedbeauty is right. I believe they do cause of the way they were treated pre-60s.
I am black but not African American. I know that not all African American like BET. I can't stand that channel. A lot of black women believe it depicts them in a wrong way.
I also know that a lot of African Americans are racist towards themselves. A lot of black on black crimes. It needs to stop.
