No, you shouldn't have to reformat. There are plenty of antivirus software products that take care of most worms. I use Avira. It's free, effective, and updated daily. You can download it at

It's taken care of a few worms for me. The trick with worms is to catch them before they cause too much damage. If they corrupt OS startup files, you may need to reinstall your OS. It's still possible that you'll need to reformat, but only do it if nothing else works.

You need use AVG in safe mode. You can also get a lot of free registry cleaners. You can also go to HijackThis and download the program. Post your results on the site and someone will tell you what to get rid of. Be careful cuse once it's gone, it's gone. I don't think it is wise to mess with registry files, but if you are going to reformat anyway, what have you got to lose?

depending on the virus, and yes you would be better off reformatting. Nortons has a tool that you boot with(disc in tray at start-up) that can check your drive.
