Win XP home (SP-2?) I use the same.. It is best to close down any programs running in the background while doing a defrag. I don't run much in the background, it slows things down too much. Also, a defrag in XP doesn't do a very good job with Windows 'pre-fetch' being used. It is very hard to get a good contigous defrag using that program. I actually took pre-fetch out of service on my XP, I notice no difference in performance, but a very good, clean defrag...Defrag does take some time. Mine, about 3 minutes.. With the 'pre-fetch' turned on, the defrag still leaves files all over the place.. A good defrag makes files quick and easy to access, on a very contigous block of files, all right next to each other.

Though i havent used the win plus SS, but i believe its because of the screen saver settings...
1 check the resolution
2 make sure you have good memory (least256mb) as these requires much ram to run and also check your screen resolution too some thing likecolour quality 16bit/32bit make it to 32bit and 800x600 ->1024x768pixels.. or depending on your monitor settings..
3 If the speed of the screen saver or the quality is mentioned set to the medium.
hope this helps..!
Keep asking!!!
Have a nice day

Try using the keyboard or mouse ... screensavers are only there to imitate what you would do if you *were* using the PC, to avoid burn-in onscreen.

maybe the screen saver (if you downloaded it) has spyware attached to it. spyware will slow down any system. or maybe spyware has gotten on your system via some other download you've made.
