A greast place to visit but if you have the time- don't just stick to the city. If you can, check out the Cape and Islands, the North Shore, and and great places out west.
I found a few sites that you can check out to help you plan your trip.

Boston proper is a very small city that you can walk from one end of, to the other, in less than 2 hours. As with any city, there are safe places and not so safe places.Stay away from Roxbury( a neighboring city ) if you are white.Stay away from South Boston if you are black. As much as I love Boston, and I've lived here for 54 years,it is to be respected for it's natives. Now for the good stuff. It's full of culture, history great restaurants, friendly people, Red Sox fans, cool museums, street performers and people come from all over the world to come to our hospitals and universities. It also has one of the most sophisicated and clean subway systems that will take you anywhere in and around the city for a few dollars.come to the Public Gardens to see the flowers and ride the Swan boats that are people powered.Come to the Museum of Science and visit the Omni Theatre. Awesome!!

Boston is awesome during the summer months. Make sure you also go to Nantucket or Martha' Vineyard. That's the Beverly Hills 90210 (even better) of New England. You can go for a day to either palces or stay overnight if you can afford the hotel prices.

It has a long baseball rivalry with New York.
And we're still winning!

Friendly people, plenty of things to do, lots of historic sightseeing to be done. If you can avoid driving, though...do it! =)
