For the lawn and fire ants: Amdro - couple teaspoons around the mound.

For lawn and general control: several good products in your home improvement store in garden center(Home Depot, etc.)

For around the perimeter of your home: OrthoMax (either spray type or new granules) are working for me. Also, Amdro makes another type of granule for placing around the perimeter or your home that is excellent. all these are also available in the garden section of your home improvement store.

While some of the heavy duty chemical stuff will work, if you have kids or animals it may not be your best solution.

I've been using diatomaceous earth for years. Harmless to humans and animals and a real killer for the bug would. (Can be found in most garden shops)
