It only seems to care if the mail comes from a known bad address, and that's pretty easy to spoof. The virus scanner picks up the really harmful ones OK but the endless v!@gr# offers do annoy me. Any way to beef it up? It's an office system and I'm not about to change platform...

Popfile is an advanced email filter/rules app that classifies your mail based on training - it learns from the way you sort your mail.

Hi,

One thing is for sure. Spam is here to stay. Its only that some servers have a better bit of luck than others. As long as the internet is giving free access to all spam can't be eliminated. Spam filters are only a set of rules that have been set based on previous experience of some people. Unfortunately spammers are innovative but anti-spamers can't be so. They MUST wait for the spammers innovations in order to counter them. So every now & then these spam mails keep slipping through. In case of some servers such as hotmail & yahoo this would be more frequent because these servers have been around for a longer period of time. Spammers works on a database of email ids. They simply pick ids from a randomly generated list. The number of hits they get is based on luck, They have a better chance of hitting the jackpot with hotmail & yahoo because lotsa people have been using these services for a lot of time now.

Thanks & Regards
Vinod

The built in filters are only as good as the rules you create. Perhaps you can install mailwasher, which is good, but it would be better if your company used a commercial anti-spam/anti-virus solution.
