The internet

The aeroplane, as described above, one of the side effects was the invention of Radar and from that came the Microwave!
Without the aeroplane there would have been fewer wars and the innovation of the computer would not have come about as "necessity is the mother of all invention".
Plastic surgery was a direct result of Royal Air Force Pilots being burned by High Octane Fuel.
The list is endless.

A lot of people will say "The Internet," but I disagree. I think the most important invention of the 20th Century was the airplane. It was one of the first inventions of the 20th century, with the Wright Bros. first flight in 1903, and by 1905, their "Flyer III" was capable of long-term, controlled flight.

The airplane was responsible for the outcome of both World Wars. It moves people literally anywhere on earth, and allows the possibility of "Overnight Mail." The airplane has literally shrunk the world, and allows us to be anywhere we want to be.

Even more important than the Internet, in my opinion, is the airplane.

I agree, the internet. But, it would not have been possible without the greatest invention ever, the telephone. And, contrary to urban legend, the telephone was invented by the Italian Antonio Meucci, and NOT the Scotsman Alexander Graham Bell, as the US Congress recently recognised (at last).
