because with out a referance point it is impossible to tell if you are moving or the other is.
That is the basics of the theory of relitivity.
you have to start off by saying that something is not moving. We do this all the time by saying that the ground has a velocity of 0, so every thing else has a relitive velocity to the ground.
But if you are in a car you some times can not see the ground, so you judge motion based off of something else, and that can get you screwed up.
Another interesting question: is it possible to tell if a ship is moving from the inside???

simple: we view or explain any motion with respect to a reference plane. Now any person sitting in the first car will start to see things relative to the moving car and only see or percieve relative motions in other external bodies. the person withing the first car will find that things within his car are all stationary and all and all extrenal things are moving while a person outside the car in the reference palne of the earth will see just the opposite. Similarly to a person within the car the relative velocity of the 2nd. car is offcourse backward and he finds it moving backward.

If you are in the moving car looking at the other, you usaually concentrate on the same pt. on the WINDOW when looking at things. So, the other car seems to move bkwrd. It's a sort of optical illusion.

Its based of theory of relativity. Every particle in this universe is related by different means to the other & exerts , from negligible to significant effect on it. When a particle is moving in front of us , we detect the particle as moving bcoz of reference of it to other objects. thats why when we are static inside a car(our car is reference object now), the othe car looks moving behind

Your inner ear is confused from the car your in, the non-moving road and their relation to the other car since your eyes see them as moving. It is a synapse misfire between your equilibrium and your vision.

because the one is moving forward and the other one is staying still, which means it just looks like it is going backwards. its kind of like an illusion
