I'm a sax player, used to be in bands but fed up not doing it my way. I now play with digital backings which I edit myself and they are good quality and cost nothing to produce, just a little knowledge and work.

I get great satisfaction from this as it's like playing with a real band but you are in total control.

It works well because I have performed gigs so I know the listeners like it and it makes me feel good.

I play sax, 16 years this fall, but I live in Colorado. Other good people to listen to are Paul Desmond, who played with Dave Brubeck. He has a very unique tone, but a great style. There are also tons of contemporary sax players (not Kenny G and not the jazz lite players) that sound great too. After all, it is great to study the Masters like the ones you listed and John Coltrane, but we should also study those who are around to study and listen to live, who aren't doing "the impossible" like Parker did.
Branford Marsalis
Charles McPherson
Dave Koz
David McMurray
David Sanborn
Gerald Albright
Jeff Kashiwa
Joshua Redman
Kieth Anderson
Pete Christlieb
Quintin Gerard W.
And these are just a few

HI

I come from London and I'm studying Trumpet.
If I were in Peterborough I would assist you (not that I'm top ace, I just know the theory)
Above all learn to play by ear,
Therefore you need to start training your ear, this involves Learning to recognise note intervals. I dont know if this makes sense to you , but www.earmaster.com should help you understand.
In other wides copy what you hear on records.
Start off with some simple tunes (i.e. slow ballads) just take a few riffs at first, and once you have seized that, move onto faster solos etc...
There is alot to explain. If you would like to contact me, dont hesitate to ask me questions.
When i first started, no one would/could explain to me properly the path to take, I know where your coming from.

Good luck! Its nice to see jazz related questions on this site. You have good influences. Charlie Parker was the best. You ought to also check out John Coltrane & Paul Desmond. These are my second and third favorite saxists. And then theres Lester Young, Kenny G, Wayne Henderson of The Crusaders, etc. (I don't play sax however. I used to play guitar though. I just love jazz and all good music). "Its all I want in life"?
Go for it! get out there and jam. Don't neglect other music genre influences though. Check out the blues.

women do play the sax do not take heed to those dumbies. Why would you take heed to peole like that any device is for all people. I never considered a boy play a sax. In band there have been no boys playing the sax all women(6). provide it a attempt reliable success. undergo in thoughts its your selection.

Saxophone player right here!... But I'm in New Jersey, U.S. I play tenor and I've been playing for seven years... I'm in a jazz band, we play all that good stuff. Keep practicing! Let me know if you want to talk jazz anytime.
