1) i think frank as hard at hearing not totally deaf

2)one of his ears as better than d other

2)maybe they were talking loudly( freely) as they were not expecting anyone to eavesdrop.

3)why take so much tension. just chill!

if i'm not mistaken, one if his ears has better hearing than the other, which he used to eavesdrop on them. read that part again to check.

He wasn't deaf, he was hard of hearing which is different.
