I am a novice but it seemed he was bias. Am I right or did he call a fair game? The national sports media has not said a word about him being unfair, what say you?

I think the referee was very strict during the first 60 minutes, and then suddenly decided to let everything go in the last 30 minutes. Mastroeni's red card should have been a yellow, no doubt about it. Many people say that it was given to makeup for the earlier red card, but the first red card was deserved, so what was there to make up? I think both of Pope's fouls were yellow-card worthy, so I can't complain too much there. However, I am wondering where the makeup red card for Pope's sending off was? Then, after being too strict, the referee suddenly puts his whistle in his pocket and doesn't call anything for either side. I think the offside goal was correctly called. Even though McBride did not touch the ball, he obscured the keeper's line of sight, and therefore, was involved in the play in an offsides position.

Overall, I think the referee's biggest problem was a lack of consistency. Both teams played well and having a referee interfere with the game with his inconsistency is just not fair to either team.

LOL ... you are a novice and you already think the referee was biased ? LOLOLOL.... You begin to see football as it really is... biased referees are the order of the day !!! They love football like you and I so why shouldn't they take part in the match and take sides... It is only human !!! --- Seriously, that is what I have always claimed... the role of referees should be drastically reviewed. However that sending off of the Italian player who caused the poor American player to bleed profusely was a right decision. That is not what football is about... football is about referees being biased, LOL !! Seriously, I honestly fear the remaining matches of the World Cup and referees bad decisions. Hands up those who remember South Korea and the rest of the world in the WC 2002 ?!!!

I thought the second red card that sent an American off for the tackle was a border line call. The rules state you are not to tackle from behind, so techincially, the rule was broken. I thought a yellow card would have been enough.

I think the ref was being very strict about the rules....a little too tough. The refs have been getting alot of heat from FIFA about enforcing the rules.

Mastroeni's red card was a make-up call. Under normal circumstances that should have been a yellow. I had no problem with Pope's second yellow or the disallowed goal, as those were correct calls, but giving Mastroeni the red was egregious.

And I love hearing the Italian fans trying to say that De Rossi's elbow was unintentional. That's absolutely laughable.

The managers of USA and Italy did not officially complain about the refereeing. No other officials or organisations voiced complaints. You are a novice. So how the heck can you pose this question?

There are only two kinds of referees bad and worse. This referee fits into worse.

I will not argue the 2nd red card to US team, but I very disappointed when they disallowed Beasley's goal.

The linesman think saw McBride touch the ball and decided an offside, but actually he wasn't touching it.
