Yes, the electoral college was established to protect the interests of rich, white men. And as we have seen from the elections of 2000 and 2004, it still protects the interests of rich, white men.

One thing I wonder: If a Democrat had been Secretary of State in Ohio in 2004, and Kerry had won by 60,000 votes, and thus won the presidency with 274 electoral votes -- do you think the conservatives would be so keen on keeping the electoral college? Just a thought.

absolutely, it is antiquated and discriminatory.

Boot: What does that have to do with anything? Just wait until a repub wins the pop vote but loses the electoral college, then we'll see if it's a liberal issue.

And as for protecting smaller states, I have a problem with that. If a candidate gets over 230-ish electoral votes, they don't need to worry about small states. So they try to lock in the biggies and ignore the little ones. If the whole thing came down to actually getting 51% of the vote, they would have to speak to all AMERICANS not individual states.

No, New York and California both have enough political pull as it is. Part of the reason for the Electoral College is to give the smaller states equal protection

YES!!! I have grown up in Ohio all my life. Every 4 years we get a ton of speeches by the dem and republicans. They are always here. My roommate was here for the first time during the 2004 elections. He came from West Virgina. He said he was luck to get to see them in his state twice a year and here he could see them all he wants. PLUS HERES THE BIGGEST REASON. Living in a top 10 state... I am sick of the nominees always being here tying up my traffic. I will sit for 30 minutes so that the current president can dive through. With the electorial college gone I would not have to put up with it so much.

Actually Bush won by getting all the little states like Wyoming and so forth who have very small populations. Therefore, the electoral college does help the little states not get bossed around by liberal breeding grounds.

Not that liberals breed. They kill thier young and import people from the turd world.

Nope.

I love you, Boot :)

By the way, parrot, did you know most people who donated to Bush's campaign earned less than $25,000 a year?
Oh wait, is that "rich" to you? ;)
