Depends on the type : Typically Acetone, Ethyl Acetate, Ethanol, Isopropanol. Also glycerine and castor oil to moderate the damage to the nail bed.

acetone. Don't use it on acrylic nails, it will dissolve them. You have to get a non-acetone remover for that.
