When the mankind appeared first in this world it was infact kind and compared to many other wild creatures we were comparatively mild only but only over a course of time man has changed and has become unkind. May be just change one letter from a to u mankind-manunkind -or munkind.

Because kind can also mean belonging to the same group of individuals, as in he is one of a kind. So Mankind means all men assuming that men covers women as well.
