Sea-monkeys, in case you've never had any of your own, are actually a variety of the brine shrimp. They've been marketed as pets since 1960, when scientist Harold von Braunhut observed their eggs have a long shelf life out of water, and, once hatched, they're pretty easy to care for. (Besides, they're way too small to eat, so what else are you going to do with them?)
brine= salt water

Here is one for you called Just Wondering. After they make Styrofoam, what do they ship it in? Since Americans throw rice at weddings, do Asians throw hamburgers? Before they invented drawing boards, what did they go back to? Do fish get thirsty? Do hummingbirds hum because they don't know the words? What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about? What is the speed of dark? When dog food is new and improved tasting, who tests it? Where does your lap go when you stand up? Where is Old Zealand? How do you get off a nonstop flight? How does the guy who drives the snowplow get to work in the mornings? Why are raisins called raisins if they are only dried grapes? Why not just call them dried grapes? How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? If 7-11 is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, why are there locks on the doors? If a fly has no wings would you call him a walk? Why did kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Why do ballet dancers dance on their toes? Why doesn't the company just hire taller dancers? Why do fat chance and slim chance mean the same thing? Why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing? Why do people go to the unemployment office to find a job? Why do people park in driveways and drive on parkways? Why do pigs have curly tails? Why do they call it quicksand when it sucks you down slowly? If blind people wear dark glasses, why don't deaf people wear earmuffs? Why do they call the piece of wood a two-by-four if it's only 1 3/4" x 3 1/2"? Why do they give you a DVD with a DVD player to tell you how to use it? If Fred Flintstone knew that the large order of ribs would tip his car over, why did he order them at the end of every show? Why do they sterilize the needle for lethal injections? Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat? If humans get a charley horse, what do horses get? If I melt dry ice, can I take a bath without getting wet? Why do we need training bras? What can we teach them? Why is it that when we want to shutoff windows we press start? Why did you read this all?

Sea Monkeys are actually brine shrimp, and I don't believe they live in the sea, unless they can survive in freshwater and saltwater. You know, in the little sea monkey kits, they give you water purifying stuff, so it could be a salt solution or just to take the chemicals out or both.

Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid of Artemia salina, a species of brine shrimp. These are a type of fairy shrimp -- not true shrimp, but a branchiopod. The term Sea-Monkeys (sometimes unhyphenated) is a trademark used to sell them as a novelty gift. They originate in salt lakes and salt evaporation flats.

They aren't really any creature called Sea Monkeys, it's a kitchy thing that used to be advertised in the back of comic books back in the day. Actually what you got when you ordered them were brine shrimp.

i bought my daughter sea monkeys once, theyre just like tiny shrimps but they start out as a powder you mix with water, they come to life and they live,breed, die etc in a self-contained tank you get with them. After a few months they all died but the instructions said to evaporate the water off and start all over and the powder that was left would come back to life as new sea monkeys when mixed with water again....guess what....it did work....they lived for years!!!!
