Depends.
If its hot outside- I want a cold pool
If its cold outside- I want a nice heated one.

If it is hot outside, like today in NJ: Cold water. I'm dying right now for it. 70-75 is good enough. Also if you want to play in it or swim a lot, cold is best for that.
I don't recommend warm... If you wanna relax, get a jaccuzy.(spelling?) But, if it is chilly outside, warm would be good. But why would you swim in chilly weather?

If you want to relax in the pool (and its cold outside) then it should be warm: like 86F
But if it for swimming (as a sport) then 70-75 F (thats the best for my friends and I)
Because, as said already, if the temperature is to warm then it seems harder to swim, you seem to feel tired quicker and get thirsty. :-)
It also depends on were you are (and your climate). :-)

In the summer, I like my pool water cool. In the fall/winter time, I like to set a temperature between 85 and 100*F.

i love cold water

even when its cold out, it forces you to keep on swimming and you end up swimming even harder than you normally would

hot water sucks in the cold because when you get out of the pool youre freezing your butt off if there's a wind chill

Too cold is bad at first, but if it is too warm, then swimming becomes very uncomfortable after a few lengths

Not warm water because you die
But not cold water because you die
So in-between

Warm if it is chilly outside and cool if it is hot outside.

Cold water is better because it keeps you and your body awake
Warm water heats and relaxes your muscles, making them go to sleep, making it harder for you to swim
