Assuming you've tried a tuneup already (esp. if it's been more than 30K mi since the last one) this sounds like a fuel injector problem (dirty, clogged injectors). I would try a trial of adding a bottle of injector cleaner with every tank of gas for the next 2-3 months and see if it gets better. If not, you should have the injectors checked by a mechanic. Either way, you should add cleaner every time you change the oil.

Yup I agree with the other adviser. You need a new mechanic. Your car probably needs to be overhauled or as the other said your injectors could be clogged. But my money is on overahauling your engine. gonna be a big expense if this is advised to you consider getting another car or replacement engine whichever cost less of course.

If you have already taken it to a mechanic, why didn't he diagnos the problem for you? Did you tell him what you've been experiencing with it?
It could be several things: Bad fuel injectors, bad vacuum hoses, simply old and need of retirement...whatever.
But if you took it to a mechanic and he didn't diagnos it properly, then you need a new mechanic.

i drive a ford taurus too and ive never noticed this problem. you might want to get your car checked out. mine is a '96 by the way. my car does however, have a problem where it will randomly jerk when i am increasing in speed. overall though the car drives well so im not really sure why your car is doing that but if it continues to be serious i would definitely get it checked out. good luck!

sounds like you may be having a cat failure?use a vacumn gauge to test.attach hose to a vacunm port in manifold.excel
engine to 2500 rpms watch gauge when you release the throttle
when gauge drops does it recover to 18-20 in.vac.if it recovers slowly you have a bad cat.
you can also use a infored temp probe exaust must be 300*
hotter at the out side of the cat.good luck
.or check your fuel filter

have it scanned for computer trouble codes. But it sounds like a tune up problem, catalytic converter may be plugging up,fuel filter may need changing ,and a compression check should be done to rule that out of the way .
