Since a colleague worked in Egyptology for a year, I have fount the truth is often confused with the politically correct truths. In reality, most of the Egyptians were of the ******* race.

Good question! I believe Hollywood only wants to betray Caucasians in a wealthy and historical light because all the black actors and actresses are portrayed in a ghetto image such as pimps, prostitutes, drug lords, and gangsters. Sadly, but true!

No one would want to see a movie about a black woman, or even an ethnic woman back when epic movies were made. These movies weren't about race, they were vehicles for movie stars. I mean think about it: You're going to make the most expensive movie ever and you're going to cast Butterfly McQueen or Elizabeth Taylor? Do the math. It's not about acting, it's not about race, it's about our perceptions of "glamor" and "beauty." And actually Cleopatra was descended from the Greeks as were all the Pharaohs.

Not really *******.
They looked much like Egyptians do today and as they are portrayed in wall paintings and sculpture. If you want to see what ancient Egyptians looked like, look at their statues. Actresses of northern European decent have played Cleopatra in Hollywood films because Hollywood is Hollywood.

Moses probably didn't look like Charlton Heston either.

because there is no such thing as race
and because (condraticting my previous science based statement) hollywood is driven by racist stereotypes and back in the 50s who would want to see a movie with a black woman ruling a country. The idea would have been ridiculous :)

oh, and yes there is the obvious issue that she was documented as being greek but i still see your point that the rest of the cast was white.

Also in westerns, indians, I'm sorry "native americans", were just whiteys with long hair and plaits

Because she was Greek!
When Alexandre the Great passed away, the empire was split in states governed by his generals. One of them was Egypt governed by Ptolemy. Cleopatra was a descendant of Ptolemy! That mean she was Greek!
