I'm spending 2 days in the Phoenix area next month. It's a short getaway during the week with my husband. Are there any suggestions/ideas/attractions/restaurants that are a "must see or do" in or surrounding the city center? I'm very flexible to all ideas- from simplicity to sky's the limit, adventure to romantic. Two days is not a lot of time, but we're willing to make our stay worthwhile and memorable. We'll have transportation, so commuting to nearby cities will not be a problem.

In the downtown metro phoenix area, there are a number of very cool short side trips.

1. South Mountain park and overlook - take Central Ave. south to park entrance - free admittance for day hikes, scenic overlook and even (if still available) horse trails with rentals.
2. Copper square - a generic name for the downtown area - many bars, restaurants, and if you are interested a newly booming Art scene just north of downtown.
3. Adventure - hmmmm, how about skydiving (Skydive arizona-between Phoenix and Tucson, glider rides (Peoria, a nearby suburb) or a "discovery flight" with Sawyer aviation in the Scottsdale airpark.
There are numerous other opportunities - varied by time of year and venue - but please always remember, 115+degree temps are not unusual some/most times of the year and it is very important to remain hydrated at all times.

I don't mean to rain on your parade but...

all of the people before me have great ideas just keep in mind that its been very hot here over the last couple of weeks and it doesn't look like it's going to get any cooler.

However,

I still have a few ideas.

*The Grand Canyon, Jerome and Sedona is a great couple of day trip through northern Arizona great scenery and lots to see along the way. (By the time you get here the fire should be out)

*Tuscon,Bisbee, Nogales is another way to go were u can see more of the "wild west" and even parts of Mexico.

If you're looking for some great romantic dinner spots here's a few.

Phoenix/Scottsdale - Elements at the Sanctuary, great views. T.Cooks at the Royal Palms Hotel, The Compass Room at the Hyatt Downtown Phoenix, Durant's in Downtown Phoenix (very old world, my wife and I love this place), Mastro's in north Scottsdale, and Marco Polo supper club to name a few.

Sedona/Grand Canyon - L'Auberge De Sedona (they do a superb Sunday brunch, the Yavapai room at the Enchantment Resort great views.

If you're looking for a great spot for drinks and a nosh, you have got to try the Kazmirez World wine bar (http://kazbar.net/)

good luck to you.

Heard Museum.

Phoenix has a mountain park. You can drive almost to the top. I forgot the name though.

Drive the Apache Trail for a day trip.
