Not every nation is interested in wealth and power.Take the Scanadavian countries for example, they have an excellent welfare system for their citizens, they do not pollute, they also are the largest international contributors in terms of funds to the lesser developed nations, they have a well eduacated populace and they are happy not being the most powerful nation militarily or economically.I also put in this caveat that I genuinely want an answer with no disrespect to this great nation.

yea ... unfortunately its led the americans to understimate the world outside .. their opinion is further clouded by an insatiable materialistic pursuit... they constitute 5% of the worlds population and consume 45% of the worlds natural resources ...

they fail to realise that people have different satifaction levels.. for example i live in india... just cause my country isnt fully developed it doesnt mean that we aren happy... it would broaden the perspective of americans if they stopped lookin at negatives of other communities and recognisin positives.

Americans are funny. It's hard to separate the American media from the actual people who live there. Not every American owns guns or does drugs or owns a home or has money. Look at New Orleans. And there are many, many, many places outside the U.S. that have drugs and guns! I think the average Joe in the U.S. is just like any other average Joe anywhere else, just trying to survive and take care of the family. The world seems to hate'em though. I'm pretty sure most Americans know that. They may believe the root of it is envy because it's a simple reaction. Or maybe they're afraid of the consequences from their own county.

Not this one. Probably a bunch of us do, though. The ones who don't get out of the country much.

Still, I knew a woman from a certain Asian country who was looking forward to becoming an American citizen at the same time that I was growing embarrassed about being American.

I was 17 years old before I ever overheard someone speaking in a foreign language. There are lots of people in the US who never get to meet foreigners, and there are many more who only meet the foreigners who have come here because they want to live in the US.

Many of them do. They have been taught this ever since the Cold War, when the propaganda was about millions of people struggling to escape while listening to American pop music on smuggled vinyl albums... Many people will answer this question by talking about the millions of people who want to immigrate to the United States without considering the billions who do not.

Don't get me wrong - there are many wonderful things about the United States and many things for which the world should be grateful. But many things are deeply wrong with the USA and I have never in my life experienced a desire to live there.

At the end of the day, the USA is just another country. Bigger and stronger, maybe, but they are neither purely good nor purely evil. They merely exist.

You know, I just answered a question about ten minutes ago regarding the America bashing. If you've got a deep seated problem with Americans, this is probably the wrong site for you. Sure there are nice places outside of the states, nobody's denied that. Please send some pictures so we can decide if we should invade and take over or not. Where in France are you from, Pierre?

Yes, sadly, the Media (owned by Rupert Murdoch - Fox) is very efficient at warping the minds of many Americans. Most Americans don't travel outside the US because the only images they let us see of other places depict poverty and starvation. We also have a bunch of "french villains" in all of our action movies that scare Americans into thinking that Europeans are hostile and dangerous. They don't realize that the US is far more dangerous.

You have to keep in mind that our economy is only good for one thing - keeping us in front of a television all day.

Actually the simple truth is the silent majority of Americans don't even think about anyone outside of their circle of family and friends. Those lovely polls that get distributed across the world are basically worthless mindless drivel. The wording is slanted, the program tilted, heck we could take one to whatever your country is, rephrase it, survey the .00001% that talks to these pollsters and find out it's your country that believes the world envies them ;-)

It's the European posts that seem to validate that belief!

Look at the questions -- they can't get enough of us!

Incidentally, I live in Germany and I think it's wonderful! I also love Italy, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland!

However, when it's all said and done... with all it's faults... there is no place like the USA

It does not-- our legislators are so out of touch with the actuality of life that their determination making purposes have thoroughly disappeared. the techniques our government is making have no longer something to do with the betterment of the yank and each thing to do with government administration, capacity grabbing by making use of particular persons and the motive to ruin united states of america and our financial equipment. it truly is obvious, Obama does not like the form - he thinks it’s a checklist of “adverse liberties” telling the government in user-friendly terms what it could’t do truly than spelling out what the government “ought to” do for you. So is it any marvel that this guy has the regulations, philosophies and acquaintances that he does. it truly is “We the folk” who will settle on the direction and direction that united states of america takes. good now it appears that evidently that we've a team of politicians in place of work who do no longer in user-friendly terms like the Capitalistic, loose marketplace equipment that made united states of america great. They truly choose a Nanny state setup the place the government makes all your judgements for you and additionally supplies you “monetarily” for you besides - in different words they choose you to be thoroughly based on them for all your needs. each and every thing Obama says and does has a tinge of Socialism or Communism. All of his regulations, all of his speeches and all of his appointees and Czars. Obama needs the government to regulate each and every thing and he needs all individuals based on the government for their needs. Obama, interior the couple of minutes he has been president has effectively destroyed the Democratic party by making use of going so some distance left that even the hardcore liberals are aghast at what this freak is doing. It was once that the government had tests and balances interior the experience that it may be the Democrats vs. the Republicans and the argument of liberalism vs. conservatism - yet no longer does this argument exist. The argument is now State-ism vs. Capitalism, Socialism vs. Freedom and Totalitarianism vs. the yank way (as written by making use of our founding fathers). What has took place? How did this transition ensue? while did this transition ensue? the unlucky answer is the trash politics of Obama and the cock roaches he has dragged into the White domicile with him. o_O
