Well.......that's a really deap question and couldn't be answered in a nutshell.
The role you play in life plays a big part here....and also your personal contacts, your self esteem, and where you are.
If you are a doctor, in your clinic or hospital, you should seem serious about your job, not have your eyebrows peirced, and should seem professional....would you trust a doctor to operate on you that has his eyebrows peirced, and speaks in slang? A sense of humour is needed, but i wouldn't go under the knife with someone who approaches with wih a "Eeey warrup yo!"
If i'm with friends and family, i would be myself...even if i was a judge! cool, down to earth, and not try to bring work home cause i'll bore my fam..but they would be expecting me to be the wise one, so you better live that up a little.
Of course no one would wanna go to a club or a restaurant with someone who's just serious all the time..so you better lighten it up when socializing..
All in all....building your self image is giving people what they expect from you, according to your job, and your status.

Every person builds its own self-image with its own factors and criteria. But the most important ones to me are; Self confidence and faith( not to religions, but in yourself )

Everything that anybody has ever told us about ourselves contribute to our self-image. I learned this at school and when i talk to people, mostly females, they always complain that something about them isn't right. It makes me want to catch up with whoever told them negative things about them and wring their necks.
