If you do - do any of you still hand write them as opposed to typing?

I miss getting letters in the mail - the inbox just isn't the same!

Yes, I do when I'm feeling lofty and thoughtful. I like to do innovative things with my letters like making them kind of "scrapbookie" if you know what I mean.

Why of course I do! My sisters who live in other states, just love it when I send them something from a newspaper clipping with a letter attached or I send a card with a letter (short) written inside and the troops overseas (Iraq) they like letters too. I don't see it as old fashioned, but so many people are just delighted when you think to send them a letter via the phone, internet, etc. They just love it! People love to receive mail through the Post Office, they just love to receive letters!

This is interesting since I was just talking about this with my mom the other day. She used to write one of my aunts a lot when I was growing up, but my aunt hasn't written back for ages so that pretty much stopped. I also wrote my cousin when we lived in different towns, but now she lives right downstairs so I can't do that anymore. I really don't have any out of town family that I know well enough to write to, and as for my friends, well I talk to them online most days so there's really no need. (Kind of a shame, really.) I AM planning to send a handmade birthday card to my bf though, if I can figure out a funny message to put on it. :)

I agree -- nothing beats the thoughtfulness demonstrated by a hand-written letter. However, personally, I've gotten to where I usually type because I can get words down almost as quickly as I can formulate them and because I'm starting to get a little arthritis in my hands which can make writing painful.

That went out in the 80s with my family. In the 90s we started typing our letters on typewriters and computers. By 2000 we all had converted to email except for greeting cards. By 2010, we expect to completely convert to e-cards.

♡I sure do! I hand write and mail a letter to my dad in the USA every single week and he replies. I also hand write, although not so often, letters to other family/friends in the states. I even write note cards and postcards to friends here in Japan!(*^o^*) I L♡VE "regular" mail too! (...and beautiful stationary, nice pens...)♡

Yes, I do.
I correspond to a wonderful Jewish woman who has been a part of our family for over 40 years. She is a 92 year and volunteers her time helping art students at a local school.
Nothing makes her happier than to receive letters, notes, photos, greeting cards and recipes. It's nice to see the updated versions posted when you go to visit her.

I am a newbie genealogist and have find that sending and receiving "snail mail" is just as fun now as it was before I started using a computer for my research. I hand write some of my distant relatives for stories and other information regarding my family history.

yes, i agree. the whole writing with a pen on paper thing feels a lot more attach to the meaning of the letter. but stamp prices are going up!

I send out correspondence letters for business related things.

I also like to hand write postcards whenever I am in some wacky place and send it to my friends or family. You know, real quick like with just a short note.

I do not have a good handwriting or good grammar or spelling so I type my letters on the computer and print them out and mail them in the snail mail.
