There are a few crossover skills, but they are plenty different.

No way.

First, you have to understand that snowboarding requires a lot of balance and commitment. Now, when i say commitment, i don't mean like commit to practicing and stuff. I mean you are commited to the ride and the board because you're strapped on. Whereas with a skateboard, you can just jump off whenever you want.

I am a decent snowboarder, and i can do some tricks and sh*t, but i absolutely horrible when it comes to skateboarding. I've been skateing longer than i've been riding and i can do a Method on a snowboard, but i can't even do a kickflip on a skatebpard.

I never took any lessons, and i'm pretty good. The hardest thing for me to learn were my backside turns. Which is fairly similar to my skateboarding because i can spin frontside, just not backside.

Snowboarding is really fun, and if you want to learn, i suggest taking lessons because i'd be so much better now than i already am if i had taken a few lessons.

Good luck dude.

If you can ride a skateboard well you will definately have an advantage over someone who does not when snowboarding. The balance issues are very similar but it is an entirely different sport. It's a cross between skating, surfing and skiing. Skating and surfing knowledge will help with your balance and the basic idea of how to turn. Knowing how to ski will help with weight distribution and knowing what to do with your edges.

If you are planning on learning how to snowboard I would definately take a lesson. That way, you can get the basics of it down and then let your skateboarding skills help you with the rest.

Not really. I'm really good at snowboarding, but I'm terrible at skateboarding.
