These shows do find excellent singers. However....the biggestband to come out of these shows were Liberty X and they were rejects. Bands like The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay etc all would have failed on these shows. Good music doesn't just mean an excellent singing voice. It's about passion, character, flair, intensity, fun, attitude, and groovy tunes.

i only watch the early rounds really for the poor misguided souls who think they can sing when they so obviously cannot-the shows do have genuine talent on them but what really saddens me is the fact that most of the winners get their 15 minutes of fame and are then dumped as soon as idol number 2 comes along-i somehow think that theyd have been better off without the show and working their way up slowly rather than being thrust into the spotlight when they are ill equipped to deal with it.
i also question the right of the judges to be so nasty to people and put them down because for instance our own x factor has judges on it that all have very questionable musical pasts and very little future if you ask me-the only winner of this type of thing that i think will sustain a long career is will young-because the boy wouldve made it anyway and has a very grounded attitude to life-think of all the rest of the winners(uk)and there aint many you would expect to see around in a few years time-its a shame but thats how we seem to want everything these days-disposable

The last series of the X Factor featured some excellent talent, I liked Maria and Brenda and Journey South a lot. Sadly it was evident Shayne Ward was always going to win, and he was probably the weakest of the final bunch, it was just that he appeals to the teenagers and so that was what helped him win.
I also think the judges need to stop trying to score points against each other (Sharon and Louis in particular) because ultimately it affects the participants. The day Louis kept in the Conway Sisters over Maria was a fiasco, simply because they are Irish, that was not a meritable reason to allow them to stay, and it was very sad to see Maria have to leave when it was obvious she could have gone on to the final four.

The early stages of X-factor are great and entertaining to watch, especially where they think they can sing and they get told to get lost! The look on their faces!
The last series of the X-factor wasn't bad, I wanted Journey South to win but it was otherwise decided.
And yes, I do think they produce talent, look how far Will Young has come since winning Pop Idol. He has established his own style and now being copied on Stars In Your Eyes.

I have to admit that I'm not keen on reality TV programmes but X Factor does make me laugh a lot! I think it's when you get the really TERRIBLE ones that confidently say: "Oh yes, I am the X Factor" then they audition and it's 'oh my god, what are they doing?!'
Seriously, are these people deaf? I don't need 'Nasty' Simon Cowell to tell me I can't sing, I know that myself!
And also, when they become 'emotional' it makes me laugh (God, I sound wicked!)
Some of these people are actually quite good so I would go with that these programmes are entertaining in a warped and twisted way.
Oh yeah, and to make money of course.

All about the almighty buck. Also, if the contestant isn't a Backstreet Boys clone, or some kind of teeny dreamboat pin-up girl, they probably aren't going to be in the running. It's more of a fashion show with singing as the afterthought. Kind of depressing really.

It's definitely entertainment viewing, but of the lowest kind. It's a big popularity contest too.
I think maybe one talent comes out of a 1000 contestants. By talent i mean , someone who can sing songs that other people wrote.

Total drivel. I watched part of the first one then decided it was c**p.
Why, in a show looking for talent, are there so many people who call themselves musicians that cannot play an instrument of any kind?
It is not entertaining to watch people humiliate themselves.
The winners only ever release one album then disappear again forever. It speakes for itself.
