Okay I am not exactly what you want, I have been pregnant but was not smoking. Yet I did have a friend who did exactly that. She quit around her 3rd month cold turkey and, doctors visists shortly after determined she had done the right thing all together, the baby heart rate got healther, and her aspiration (or breathing rate), increased greatly which meant she was able to afford he child more oxygen thus stimulating growth and brain function,...she said she also thought more clearly, and healthy. The doctors told her quitting the was oppurtune for her as well seeing as she was already taking the pregnancy vitamins which helps detoxify the body natural, and replace minerals and vitamins the body lacked, so it made it easier for her, and helped her body heal the effects faster. So it's a win win situation. I think you are sincerely a great friend for being so concerned, hopefully you'll get to see the fruits of your labor here grow up to be a beautiful person who in turn doesn't smoke,...it takes good mentors like you,...
Hope that helped,...

Nothing is gonna happen to the baby quitting smoking cold turkey.. I smoked and quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant with both my kiddos. It's a little easier to quit like that...but there were times that the craving were there. So baby will be fine...I had no issues with my kiddos--scratch that--they're brats... LOL. Congrats on ur friend for quitting and doing the right thing. Also tell her its very important that she doesn't pick up the habit again after birth..if she smokes and if she breast feeds the nicotine is pass directly to the baby.

It won't hurt the baby. But you can tell your friend that continuing to smoke will cause her baby to be born at a "low birth weight." Smoking constricts the blood vessels in the umbilical cord and therefore reduces the nutrients and oxygen that the baby gets during it's development. How would she feel if her baby was born with a problem? Very guilty. And it would last for a lifetime and she would be caring for the child a lifetime. I had a handicapped child and did everything right. The guilt and sadness is still and will be forever overwhelming. No amount of counseling or time will completely take it away.

I'm 26 weeks now and quit at 12 weeks. Actually I went down to about 3 a day...then 2, etc. MUCH better than cold turkey. It's better for the baby to quit cold turkey but mom will lose her mind trust me!

Ive had 2 miscarriages before...i found out i was pregnant and i quit smoking....my doctor said that its not good to quit cold turkey when you are pregnant...its best to cut back, and switch to lights....quitting smoking adds more stress to your body and being pregnant also causes stress on the body and stress is bad for a pregnant women...i am currently 6 months pregnant and i smoke, and my baby is growing healthy and everyhting...so my best advice to her is not to quit smoking cold turkey, just smoke every once in a while or limit your cigs to under 5 a day...thats what i do and my baby is healthy....

no is not good to quit cold turkey because when ur addicted to smoking and u quit cold turkey u get withdrawal symtoms and one of the symptoms of withdrawal is low blood pressure which can give you head spins, light headness and you can easily pass out it has happend to me. I tryed to give up in the beginning of my pregnancy and passed out a few times and my doc told me not to quit!! he told me to cut down and keep cutting down until i have quit compleatly, all just cut down to a few a day and wait until the baby is born. by the way i am still smoking up 2 10 smokes a day and my baby was 6pounds 6ounces at 34 weeks which means its not small. i actully don't know anyone who smoked and had a little baby

Why would wantt o start your baby's life in a cloud of smoke?? I have a cousin that smoked during alll her pregnancies, and had very small children and they have all been developementally late. I firmly believe that the smoking caused that! She just needs to stop...period!! My mom did with all 3 of us girls....quit cold turkey. She needs to put her baby's health first.

Fetus won't go into shock, but the mom might feel awful, especially if she is a heavy smoker. One of the nurse I knew started with the nicotine replacement patches, so she doesn't go all cranky. The other nurse just stopped suddenly, but she said her mood was horrible... She does have a very strong will though, coz many heavy smokers find it hard to quit without easying off first.
