There is no such place as heaven. When I kill a spider, it either goes into the trash or down the toilet.

see...I might sound strange and a quack but once you stand at the combination of science and religion you will see numerous logical and in-logical things coming up.
If I say, that a 'cell' is fundamental and functional unit of life...that doesn't mean that it has no constituents. In fact, it is made up of cell organelles and cytoplasm (or protoplasm) e.g. Mitochondria
Mitochondria's has matrix as one of it's constituents. Matrix in turn is just complex proteins and lipids. Whereas, protein and lipids are complex compounds made up of simple elements then of molecules and at last atomic structures.
If u compare life (cell) with the molecular levels you may get an idea saying, "life is nothing but a chemical or physical property of a certain arrangement of molecules of particular elements" most probably, N, P, O and C (They constitute DNA)
So, this arrangement of molecules in terms of religion is called, "spirit" or "soul"
When this arrangement completely breaks up, one dies. But, the arrangement is made again by special forces.
So, when a spider die, most probably it's so called "spirit" breaks up releasing simple molecules of N, P, O and C.
If u want to discuss it further...u r welcome

Not complicated at all....When spiders die, they just cease to exist. They do not go to Heaven or hell...they are insects and not made from any image, whereas we humans are made in the image of God, so we have souls. We go to Heaven or hell.

Well As per Hindu philosophy all souls are same/similar but they take different physical body and take birth as human, animal, bird etc. They all die and take rebirth . The highest form of birth is human and it may get repeated till he repents all his sins and attain salvation from birth and rebirth.ALL SOULS ULTIMATELY JOIN THE LORDS FEET BUT SOME MAY NEED AGES AND SOME MAY ATTAIN IMMEDAIATELY(THOSE CHILDREN WHO DIE IMMEDIATELY AFTER BIRTH ARE SAID TO ATTAIN SALVATION AND THE BIRTH THEY TOOK WAS TO FULFILL ONE MORE BIRTH!!!!)
To understand Hindu Philosophy you may have to read a lot and it is an entirely different way of looking at life, birth and death and creation of universe and concept of God.
If you can get hold of GITA please read it once atleast.
