You could also assume not hearing the inner self is equally as bad as not seeing the inner self.

But how do we learn the most from the outside world? By hearing or by seeing? Which one has more value and what sould be the priority?

The truth is the deaf nowadays can still hear many things! I am profoundly deaf which is like one step away from complete deafness. I am 85% deaf in one ear and 80% deaf in the other.

Without my hearing aids, I hear nothing. With my hearing aids on, I can hear the phone ring, cars going by, people calling my name "Stacy", the difference between a Japanese and Mexican accent, cats meowing, the difference between a small dog and large dog barking, doorbell, paper crumbling and even crickets and mockingbirds making their daily morning calls.

I have learnt a lot from watching what goes on around me. There is so much that you can see that does not produce sound, so I'm sure one would miss out those things that have no sound like seeing beautiful snowcapped mountains, clouds in the blue sky, starry nights with a shooting star, a field of colorful flowers, etc.

It is known that blind people have a much heightened sense of hearing, some are even more intuitive and psychic, so they do make up for it some ways. I've read about two different blind Medicine Women (Mary Summer Rain and Lynn V. Andrews each both had a blind shaman woman guiding them) that were not limited to what their bodies lacked. They could truly "see" all with their third-eye.

I'd rather be deaf. Reading (by using Braille's method if I were blind) is not as important as seeing objects, people, or watching the beauty of the universe through which I can learn and collect more information than reading articles.

I am vain enough that I think it would be better to be deaf. I love music and the sound of my children's laughter, but to not see...I need to see that I look presentable and see the people that I love!

That is very hard to answer! Becuase if you have kids you are going to want to see them grow. And you are going to want to hear them call for you. I think I would rather lose my hearing. At least I can still read and see things.

Deaf because you have little control over what you hear. You can't shut your ears but you can shut your eyes. Its a control thing.
