Being from Georgia I think I can at least partly answer your question. Family feuds are always the worst. When the United States wins a war against a foreign enemy we have always helped rebuild them been merciful and tried to make them our friends whether we were successful or not.
After the Civil war corrupt northern politicians took advantage of the situation in the south to ruin the lives steal the property , and do almost everything possible to alienate the population of the former Confederacy. Many Families, and only a small proportion of them slaveholders by the way, lost everything they had. My own family went from being well to do landowners to near poverty in one generation. So yes many families have a history of bitterness to people from the north, and have very little patience for their smug self righteous air of superiority.

From the south... I served with northerners, southerners, westerners, Californians (definite, distinct), and mids....there is not any hate, yet lack of understanding is in intense provide. after a lengthy time period our ameliorations crammed the voids in our lives we did not comprehend existed, and from the decision we grew to develop into reliable because someone continuously had a fashion to do some thing. Spics, Jews, Wops, Yanks, reds, beaners, alks, yolks, slews, huskers, wanks, butters, muds, coffees, etc...once you actual comprehend your neighbor then they're more effective than what you've been instructed and lied to about. SO, bypass meet your neighbor. In a city you may walk ft and contained in the rural a mile yet make the gap propose some thing.

a very tunneled view
in America must be hundreds of groups that hate other ones, too many to list here, cowboys -Indians
black-white,religious -other religious
etc etc

And the south had a war with the North not long ago
a lot of people remember that
and don't say it was a long time ago because it wasn't

in Holland they still hate the Spanish for the Inquisition
400 years ago

the Germans from the last war is still very fresh hate

Grand daddies attitudes and hates can have it effects for many generations to come
like Apartheid in South Africa

some attitudes remain in the blood for a long time
a scientific explanation you can discover in a documentary called-- the Ghost in our genes -on BBC
it has been discovered that attitudes and mayor events that have affected people in the past as well as illnesses ,
can affect their great grandchildren well into the future
a documentary well worth seeing

Did you ever hear of the War Between the States? Or perhaps it's better known as the Civil War. The South tried leaving the Union. The North defeated the South, and the South has never recovered from its loss....plus, of course, there's all the historical racial bias. And the media have contributed to the friction by always portraying the South as backwards and impoverished.

People from the East and the West make fun of Southeners all the time because it is the Bible Belt. I live in California and I hear this all the time. People from the East are even worse. I don't make fun of them because my parents are from the South and I have family there. I am proud of my Southern heritage.

I am a southerner and I do not hate northerners. I rather view ourselves as one big family. Sure, families have their disagreements, differences of opinion, squabbles, name-calling, finger pointing - all that goes with being a huge family.

However, do not let any outsider try to mess with the family. You will quickly find out how close we really are.

Why do Christians hate heathens? It is in the nature of man to think 'tribally' Humanity is really still very primitive. You hate those who are different because of fear and ignorance. These are the same reasons that you believe in mythical gods. Educated people respect all other people and races. The beliefs that they hold sacred are just as valid as the beliefs that you hold sacred. Humanity will not know peace until all people are taught to think globally .

There is a lot of ignorance contained within this world. Some of us learn how to avoid ignorance whether on our parts or others'. Then you have many people who are envious and insecure of others because they have their minds set on someone being better or having "more" than them.
