well i do and he sent me a birthday card, but he wrote that he wants me to write him back. would it be rude if i didnt write back?

Probably a little rude. Would it really matter to write a letter back? A postcard that says the basic mundane things. Thanks for the card, hope you're well, life is so busy these days it's hard to find time to write, sorry I don't see you very often. Stuff like that. It's polite, and not technically a lie. The mention of short time normally discourages on going mail chit chat. It would be sort of rude to blow them off when they ask specificly for you to write. good luck

Wouldn't really be rude but he's family. If he said that then he might just want somebody to talk to. A letter every once in a while isn't too big of an inconvenience is it?

ummm, yes, my Dad had 19 brothers and sisters- 20 total kids in the family- the Tennessee mountains- no dueling banjos playing, but DAMM- heck yeah i have weird relatives- i see no harm in writing back, just a quick note- could keep him from showing up on your doorstep going "hey Boy/Girl, you never wrote me back"

I am the weird relative because I did not conform to society's everyday expectations of an adult.
I live my life happily, responsibly, but not locked in a cubicle in an office :-)
If he is a creepy weird, heck no!
Just send him a thank you note.
