My computer turns off randomly like to a black screen. I have an asus a8n 32 sli deluce motherboard in a antec p180 case with one intake fan two exhaust fans and one fan cooling the powersupply. I dont think it is a heat issue. the computer remains on from 2- 12hours before turning off. When it does turn off I can turn it right back on and it continues to work for several more hours. Email me any ideas as to why this happens or if you need more information. Thanks so much,
Will

First, download and install this: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php (the download link is the blue letter "SpeedFan 4.28"), then download and install this: http://sp2004.fre3.com/download.htm Then, start SpeedFan, and next start SP2004, with it set up like this: Priority 9, Test- Large, in-place FFT's. Watch your cpu temp, because chances are it's going to be overheating (anything much above 50°C is too warm for a Socket 939 chip).

Now, if it's overheating, you've done something wrong in your build. First of all, did you use thermal paste between the processor and the heatsink? Arctic Silver or other silver-based pastes work well. Are you sure you don't have ALL of your fans blowing into or out of the case? Did you remember to plug in your cpu fan and P4 motherboard connector (the square one)? And lastly, does your power supply have enough amperage +12V rail?

It could be a power supply issue. Or you could be getting power spikes across your mother board. Had similar problems with my brothers computer but couldn't really nail down what was causing it. His kept restarting with every resource intense programs he tried running. Also if your running windows Xp you might want to check your hibernation settings because with the energy star systems they will shut your computer off automatically.

your cpu fan may stop running and the cpu heats up and shuts down.
