My tourque converter is unplugged so it will run and I know that doesnt help but the gas milage has recently gotten worse. Someone said it could be the fuel injectors...any ideas of what it could be?

You mean your catalytic converter in unplugged.

If the upstream O2 sensor is out, and the car doesn't pull a/f from a MAF sensor you will suck a gallon / block.

It's either the MAF sensor, or upstream O2.
One of those two control your fuel.

It depends on what your car uses, some use the MAF sensor, and some use the upstream O2.

The computer is smart it knows if there is no signal to run real rich to avoid detonation.

My guess is that you have disconnected the converter. what did you do about the oxygen sensors. How does the gas smell. If it smells like lots of fuel it could be that. I am not a expert in this field but I had a pontiac sunbird and the oxygen sensor failed and it ran really bad and bad gas mileage. I would run a code check on it it should narrow your problem down. Or it could be the computer at it can drive you crazy. Good luck

ok, first of all, there is no way you can "unplug" the torque converter, if someone charged you to do this, you were ripped off. The torque converter is located between the engine and the transmission, it has two functions, frist it engages the starter to start the engine, and it corverts the power from the engine to acceptable levels for the transmission to use. As far as your gas mileage, it could be several things, your fuel filter could be filty dirty, your fuel pump could be messed up, your ECU could be messed up, your injectors could be not working right, they could be clogged, you could have a clogged fuel rail, you could need new spark plugs, coils, wires, distributor cap, rotor, you could have a valve or two stuck open, broken valve spring, worn seats, and not the interior, I am talking about valve seats, lol, if it has a cam position sensor it could be bad, dirty air filter, so as you can see this is alot of different things. hope it sheds some light for you..

It could be the fuel injector s or computor. First do a sniff test sniff the exhust for strong gas smell. (if rotton egg smell It needs farther testing) next check the oil for being over full or very thin (watery) and for gas smell on dipstick. Look under the car ,with it running , for gas leaking out , that could be ruptured line,or filter. Check the computor codes as they may show an area of the system that needs attintion.

your in the same boat as i.your car is old and my truck is a 90 silverado truck but i was getting better milage than you.about 14 mpg.i had a good tuneup for 70 bucks.im getting 24 on the highway.i can drive 70-80 mph on interstate 140 miles round trip and use less than 1/4 tank of gas.get a tuneup. if you check your exhaust pipes thats where your fuel is going.keeping your convertor unplugged will cause you to buy another tranny very soon.but i think i would sell it and buy a 4 plugger

That is about 22 ozs of gas in a mile !!! Look for a stuck on injector or external leak -- thats almost to the point of blowing raw gas out the tailpipe.

Is the oil diluted - Thats

Some of these early V6 engines(3.1,2.8)had problems with the fuel pressure regulator. If they go bad they can either leak or allow to much fuel to the injectors causing the vehicle to run rich.

i have study a pair of surveys on that difficulty and the outcomes were you would get better appropriate mileage with a/c off using round city even though it did not quite say how a lot. With the price of gasoline you would prefer to replenish and write mileage down and run a week or so with a/c off and do similar with a/c on and evaluate mpg. The survey did coach there wasn't a lot differance at street speeds because the domicile windows down interfered with the areodynamics of the automobile.
