I have 2 that you will probably never think of...Dave Dravecky and Jim Abbott.
Dravecky was found to have a cancerous tumor in his pitching arm and fought it so that he could return to baseball. He made it back and won 2 games before his arm snapping while he was pitching.
Jim Abbott was born without a right hand yet worked hard to make it on the U.S. Olympic team and made it to the major leagues as a one-armed pitcher. I had the privledge of watching him pitch for the U.S. team, and it was amazing how he was able to field and throw the ball.

each sport has a different best person so people who follow one sport will say that a person on that sport was the greatest
but personally it has to be Michael shcumacher (im not a fan of F1) but considering he holds all the records set in F1 apart from 2 he has a monoply on it, he has boosted the sport to a different level and he gets paid about $100m
