I don't hate something just because I don't understand it. I don't hate air that I cannot see that that goes into my body in order to breathe. We are individuals. If you honestly want to know what is so appealing about her,to people, you must get to know the people. I didn't see what was so great about the earlier versions for some people. Then I realized through listening to them that these dolls provided the opportunities for play that was not known before. Though my taste is more in the eighties to now, I can understand that those dolls are what they found exciting and new. Not every Barbie appeals to me. It must reflect my sense of style and personality. My brother always liked the die-cast replicas of the older cars compared to today's style. I liked the modern ones only until I saw them through his perspective. Now I can appreciate the older ones as well as the modern ones. What I detest are those who say that it is a beauty standard that real women have to be compared to in order to be called successful or attractive. I detest it when people cannot differentiate between fantasy and reality. Barbie is only fantasy and not reality.

Maybe you don't get the appeal because you are too young to remember when she first came out. Back then (1959) little girls could expect to be maybe a handful of things when they grew up, 1) first and foremost a housewife and mother
2) if that wasn't happening for you, then you could become a secretary in hopes of meeting a man (see #1)
3) if you couldn't type, you might become a nurse in hopes of meeting a doctor (see #1)
4) or if you were doomed to spinsterhood, you could always become a teacher.

That was pretty much it. Then this doll comes along (who was designed, by the way, after a hottie in a men's magazine in Germany in the 50's) who can do or be anything you can imagine. ANYTHING. Astronaut, Doctor, Fashion Model, Actress, Business woman, Army, Navy, Air Force, Veterinarian....I mean freakin' name it and she had the outfit, and the cool accessories, the bitchin' car (her first one was an Astin Martin, but the vette was the best), the cool house, with pool, and the hunky (OK matter of opinion again, but hey she liked him LOL) boyfriend and friends.

What little girl wouldn't find that kind of dreaming attractive if they were never encouraged to dream like that before? You are fortunate...girls are taught they can be anything they want to be now. You never had to know what it was like to have lower expectations put on your abilities merely due to your gender.

Yes, no woman's body could ever look like that, its too fake. Also when they make barbies of other races they still look exactly the same. They just paint it another color and change the eyes & hair.

Barbie kicks a--! she's had like a gazillion careers, a dream house, a pick convertible, a hottie with a body ken, and an awesome wardrobe! but yeah, i'm jealous of that biatch ;)

I find it difficult to work up enough energy to actually hate a piece of plastic. There are too many other things going on in the world.

Yea. I was in Toys R' Us the other day and that damn doll has an entire pink section and has anything you can imagine that most real women don't have - including a good looking man.

theres no reason to hate her. because if she was real her backk wuld hurt and her feet would be crippled... or so i heard. but i have big boobs and im shorter then her and my backs fine... and i never wear high heels
