From a great website...

Quoted-

At present, same-sex marriages are recognized in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, and the U.S. state of Massachusetts.

On December 1, 2005, South Africa’s Constitutional Court extended marriage to include same-sex couples which will go into effect in December 2006.

Civil unions, domestic partnerships, and other legal recognitions of same-sex couples, which vary in the number of legal benefits associated with marriage that they offer, are available in. In some countries, such as in Sweden, gay couples have virtually the same rights as heterosexual couples, including the right to adopt, the difference being that the union is not technically considered marriage (this is set to change within the next year or so).

Other countries with civil unions: Andorra, Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Australian states of New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, and the Australian Capital Territory and the U.S. states of California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and the U.S. territory of Washington, D.C.. The first same-sex union was performed in Denmark in 1989.
