Ok I'll also try what "injanier" said about the absolute possitioning (yeah that's what I'm having the most trouble on, dang book, but I guess I have to learn it sometime). ... this is why I hate making site maps with pictures, coordanates and stuff Rrrr.

Regarding the menu:
1) you need to put in line breaks. Some of the items are doubled up, and only break when they exceed the element width. Also, it looks like "Gettting started" is breaking. Shorten the line or widen the box.
2) add a line-height to give enough space for the border - the border is overlapping the text.
3) If you want a solid rectangle, add the purple background and border to the links element.
4) you probably want to define #links a:visited.

For the other stuff, if you use position: absolute without a vertical position (top: nnpx;), everything is going to pile up at the top of the page.
